Access Prowers County Court Records

Start any Prowers County court record search with the layer you actually need. Prowers County records cover everything from a hearing schedule to the Register of Action, filed pleadings, orders, judgments, and transcripts. The free docket shows a setting. The statewide record service gives you the case timeline. For the actual file and certified copies, the Clerk of Court is the office to contact. Older, sealed, juvenile, probate, and protected material may take direct review. Ask the court that heard the matter, because a municipal file does not move into the Combined Court just because the case arose in Prowers County.

Getting Prowers County Court Records

Becky Fletcher, Clerk of Court for Prowers County Combined Court, holds both Prowers District Court and Prowers County Court files. The elected Prowers County Clerk and Recorder in Suite 210 does not keep judicial dockets. For a case record, go to the Judicial Branch clerk at 301 South Main Street, Suite 300, Lamar, Colorado 81052.

  1. Locate the case number through existing paperwork, the free docket, CoCourts, or a $5 clerk name search.
  2. Choose the record layer: Register of Action, named pleading or order, certified copy, exemplified copy, or hearing transcript.
  3. Submit the state Record/Document Request Form, call 719-336-7424, visit the Suite 300 counter, or mail a precise request to the Combined Court.
  4. For a transcript, use JDF 4 and deliver, mail, or email it to becky.fletcher@judicial.state.co.us.
  5. Provide identification if requested for suppressed, juvenile, probate, or other protected material.
  6. Review the quoted copy, research, certification, transcript, or off-site retrieval charge before payment.

CoCourts can supply a Prowers ROA, and the free Prowers docket covers upcoming hearing logistics. A municipal ordinance or city-issued traffic file stays with Lamar, Holly, or the Prowers custodian named on the summons. Need the case number first? The Prowers County case lookup helps with that.

Prowers Court Record Request Form

The statewide form wants contact details, the Prowers case number, case type, filing year, county, party information, and other facts. Those details help locate a Prowers file. You can submit without a case number. In practice, party information is what makes the request workable. Pick Prowers as the county of records, then name the exact documents you need. The official request form lays out the document categories and the certification choices.

Prowers County court record request form

The Prowers form cuts the guesswork. It splits criminal, civil, family, probate, ROA, and other Prowers requests into separate categories. Criminal choices include the Complaint or Information, Disposition or Sentence Order, Protection Order, and Ticket. Civil choices cover Order for Judgment, Transcript of Judgment, Satisfaction of Judgment, and Protection Order. Family and probate categories list decrees, plans, and agreements. Orders, letters, wills, trusts, applications, petitions, claims, and closing records appear there too.

Court Record Types

A Prowers County court record is not one product. Pick the item that proves the fact you care about. A schedule answers when, and the ROA answers what events were entered. A filed order records what the judge directed. A certified copy authenticates that filed record.

  • Docket: upcoming date, time, hearing type, appearance mode, and courtroom.
  • Register of Action: chronological index of filings, minute orders, charges or claims, sentences, and case events.
  • Pleadings and orders: the complaint, petition, motion, judgment, decree, protection order, or disposition behind an ROA line.
  • Transcript: a court reporter's or transcriber's verbatim record of a proceeding.
  • Certified or exemplified copy: clerk-authenticated document for a formal use.

Prowers exhibits and protected portions may not be open to the public. Ask the clerk whether inspection, redaction, identification, or a court order is required first. A narrow request is easier to quote and fulfill. It beats a demand for the whole file. Whenever you know them, name the exact order, filing date, or ROA event. That detail saves everyone time.

Prowers Record Layers Compared

The most common error with Prowers records is treating a free calendar card as a certified disposition. It is not the same thing. A docket card, an ROA, a filed document, and a certified copy each come from a different source and carry a different level of proof.

A Prowers Transcript of Judgment is a separate $25 civil judgment instrument, not a hearing transcript. A hearing transcript is a different animal entirely. A reporter or transcriber creates it under its own request, rate, deposit, and delivery process.

Inside a Prowers Court Record

A full Prowers case file can hold much more than the free docket displays. What you get depends on case type and public-access rules. The ROA works as an index, so a requestor can name the exact filing needed instead of guessing.

Case headerCase number, court, location, class, filing date, status, and division.
Caption and partiesFormal case style plus public party and attorney blocks where available.
Claims or chargesThe civil case type or alleged criminal and traffic offenses.
Dated activityFilings, minute orders, notices, motions, hearings, and later events.
Orders and dispositionRulings, judgment, dismissal, sentence, or other outcome documents.
Financial entriesFees or court-ordered amounts where publicly included.

Prowers case numbers combine year, class, and sequence, as in 2025T100. A docket can identify the file, but the signed order controls its terms.

Fees and Certified Copies

A plain Prowers copy just reproduces the record. Certification adds the clerk's authentication, and exemplification is a more formal Prowers authentication category. Ask the receiving body what form it needs before paying for more than a plain copy.

Prowers Hearing Transcript Requests

Use JDF 4 to order a verbatim Prowers hearing transcript. The form asks for the case, county, title, and division. It also wants the judicial officer, event dates, contact data, transcript type, and appeal status. A Prowers reporter or transcriber then estimates the work. Nothing starts until the deposit is paid. Final delivery waits for full payment. The official transcript request page shows the current route to the form.

The Prowers page separates a reporter-made transcript from an ordinary clerk copy request. Ordinary production is listed at $3.60 per page with a 30-day turnaround. Expedited production runs $4.35 per page with a 10-day category. Overnight and hourly work need a court order. They cost more too. Copies add per-page charges. Audio is listed at $35. That price covers only the permitted small-claims appeal category, and the Fifteenth District guide says audio is generally not provided.

Prowers Archived Court Files

Paper still rules much of the Prowers County archive. The 1929 courthouse was filing cases long before electronic systems existed, so older pleadings sit in boxes, archive rooms, or off-site storage. The request form covers this. It expressly permits retrieval at actual cost when a file is stored off site. If you lack a case number, list the filing year, the party names, the case type, and the exact document you want.

Plan for a wait. Prowers normally answers within three business days unless extenuating circumstances apply. Old files, redaction work, identity review, and off-site retrieval can each stretch that timeline. The clerk may also issue a fee notice before any work starts.

Colorado Courts E-Filing will not unlock the archive. That system serves authorized filers and eligible opt-in parties within supported cases, and it is not a public archive of every Prowers document.

Sealed Records and Public Access

Chief Justice Directive 05-01 governs who can see Colorado court case records. It sorts access into public, remote, facility-only, excluded, and compiled categories. Rule 38 handles Judicial Branch administrative records separately. The Colorado Open Records Act presumes broader public access to government records generally, yet it does not replace the case-file process the directive controls.

Amendments can leave an older summary out of date. The current Chief Justice Directive index points you to the directive actually in force.

Prowers County court record public access directive index

Trust the index over any stale summary. The CJD 05-01 landing page tracks amendment history through November 2025.

Prowers County court record access under CJD 05-01

That history matters: remote access rules and exclusions must come from the current directive.

Access rule: Juvenile, suppressed, probate, sealed, and protected family material may require identification, role review, redaction, or a court order. An absent public result does not establish that no file exists.

Prowers Sealing Record Effects

Colorado lets eligible criminal records be sealed. The path is automatic or by petition, depending on the record type and outcome. Sealing can pull a case out of ordinary name search. It can also sharply limit what an unrelated requester sees. Expungement and sealing are different things, not interchangeable terms.

The Legislative Council explanation lays out the statutory process and record categories.

Prowers County court record sealing and expungement guidance

That overview gives the legal framework. Access to a specific file is the Prowers Combined Court's call. Never guess sealing eligibility from a docket summary. Use the current Judicial Branch forms, and ask the clerk about the governing procedure, the fee, and what proof of identity is required.
